The U.S. Department of Education announced Friday it opened an investigation into allegations of antisemitic discrimination within the Bay County School District.
According to a release from the federal agency, the Office for Civil Rights is looking into claims that the district was aware of antisemitic harassment in its schools but failed to take effective measures to stop the harassment and prevent its recurrence.
“The District was allegedly aware of antisemitic bullying, including repeated stereotypical comments, conspiracy theories about Jews, and swastikas being drawn in textbooks and on various locations across school campuses,” the release stated.
“In one instance, a group of students performed Nazi salutes, mockingly wore yarmulkes, and showed highly offensive antisemitic imagery during an in-class presentation.”
